Upon registration to the course, students will be sent URLs for all the streaming sessions and access to Metàfora’s digital classroom where we post complimentary resources like bibliography, videos etc.
The classes of this course will be streamed online in real time (Central European Time). All you need to follow the talks is a computer, tablet or Smartphone with a reasonable internet connection. We recommend you follow the classes in a private room with no distractions.
For the experiential Art Therapy group (EOT) you will need a closed room with a table or workspace and some basic art materials such as paper, crayons, watercolor, brushes, markers etc. You can also use other materials such as glue, old magazines for collage or materials for 3d art making, like clay, plasticine, bits and pieces, etc.
In each session we will be exploring different media:
- Graphic work and painting.
- 3D work (plasticine, clay, bits and pieces, wire …)
- Text based (poetry, storytelling … )
- Photography and video (collage, portrait, stop motion, sound art…).
THEORETICAL PRESENTATIONS AND TALKS
Every day during this course there is a talk on Art Therapy, helping to integrate all other experiences of the course with the relevant theory. These classes explore the history of Art Therapy and the main theoretical ideas, as well as the different forms of Art Therapy, its intervention levels, and its practical uses in education and clinical practice.
ART THERAPY TRAINING GROUP
The best way to learn Art Therapy is from within. Experiential groups, or “training groups”, are the essence of Art Therapy training around the globe, and form the space in which the different teachings of the course become truly meaningful.
Our methodology is based on specific ideas about the dynamics of groups in which art is used as a tool. As this type of group is similar to a therapy group, this allows the student to experience this aspect of an Art Therapy career from the participant’s
The experiential group is one of the main pillars of the Art Therapy training. The methodology of this kind of group formation is extensively documented in the Art Therapy literature: Moon B (1998), Payne (1999), Deaver (2012) Waller (2014), Gilroy & Skaife (2014). It consists of a small group of students meeting regularly. Sessions are shared between art making and discussion. It aims to acquire notions of the group’s dynamics and learning how this is influenced by the art making.
CASE PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS
There are case presentations of the course tutors’ clinical work with different clients. Students learn how creative methods how art therapy is implemented with different user groups.
The online version of the Easter Intensive course is the equivalent of a ”Foundation Course in Art Therapy”, so that the credits compute for further complete training in Art Therapy.
At the end of the course, students get a certificate specifying the credits completed (1 ECTS).
It is designed for professionals from many areas (Fine Arts, Healthcare, Teaching, Social Work …) who want to have an approach to Art Therapy as a complement to their training and experience.
